I just started the book Be More Chill. It is about a kid named Jeremy, who is not very popular. So far, I have read the first four chapters and I have found out that he likes a girls in one of his classes in high school named, Christina. During class he hears people talking about him. He listens and they say that he has been stalking her and he wrote her some sort of a letter. This angers him because he didn’t do anything that they said he did. He states that the only thing he has ever said to her was, “Don’t press C7, the Nutri-grain bars get stuck in this machine.”
At the end of school, he walks to the theatre. Because he is part of a play. He has always participated in productions, but this one was especially important to him – Christine, the girl he has a crush on, has a role in it. Then, the teacher in charge of the play, assigns each hopeful a part.
I was really shocked when I started reading this book. The most surprising words were ones like, “slut,” “condom,” “F***,” and “sh*t.” Most of the books that I have read before, do not use lingo like this.
Something else that I like so far is that you can understand where this author is coming from. The author knows first hand what goes on, it is not some creepy 40 year old, writing what he thinks high school is like.
Even though I am only a few chapters in, I am itching just to read on.
