Harry Potter

January 24, 2008

So, looking for a good book to read, I recently started to read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by JK Rowling again. And even more recently….I finished it.

Once again, I have proven to myself that I truely love reading the Harry Potter series. After only a handful of night times by flashlight, I completed the book feeling truely magical. I just wanted to tell all the non-Potter fans out there not to judge. Although the books are very fantasy-oriented, they still contained a brilliant plot, writing style, etc. and I’m not even a fantasy lover.

Although my love for the book grew even stronger, I was amazed at how abrupt the conclusion really is. One minute they’re fighting in the Entrance Hall, the next Harry is sending off his kids to Hogwarts. And finally the best line of all (hint of sarcasm) “All was well”. Honestly, whats with that?!?! In my opinion, it doesnt work effectively as a good ending but merely a downer after a great book…..or maybe I’m just in a bad mood. Either way :P

Harry Potter Deathly Hallows

December 14, 2007

Okay, people will probably leave comments of varying intensity but the gist of all of them will be: how can you say that?

Reading the last in the series of the Harry Potter novels, it just doesn’t catch my attention anymore. I’m reading it, but not enjoying it very much. I didn’t get to read it when it was new, and I just started in early December, but after the first few chapters I just went back to reading my old book.

Another thing that I dislike about the book is the outrageous strangeness of it all. I know that the author is trying to create a world of magical wonder where anything is possible, but you can only use the stereotype of an extremely awkward person, say, the little man with a top hat and high pitched voice, so many times. Just in case there’s any misconception, I don’t mean that all for the characters are short, top hat wearing high pitched voiced men, but almost all of the wizards are extremely awkward physically, with their features and/or dress not matching.

Some of my friends tell me that the middle part of the book is extremely boring, and that there isn’t even much content pertaining to the plot in the middle, but I’m going to read it anyway. I guess I’ll keep reading, it almost feels like trudging, through the last book in the Harry Potter series, I’ve read all of the other ones except for the first one, and I guess it’s just something I’ve got to do for the sake of having done.
