Playing For Pizza

January 14, 2008

I Have just finished reading a book titled Playing For Pizza. The book is about a man named Rick Dockery who plays football in the NFL. He played for the Cleveland Browns and when the were in the Super Bowl he went in with 11 minutes left and the Browns were up by 17 points. He threw 3 interceptions and they lost the game. Needless to say, he was not liked in Cleveland. No other NFL teams are willing to sign him. So he goes to Parma, Italy to play for a team that does not get paid. There are 7 other teams in the league. The Parma team is known as the Panthers and is made up of 2 american players and the rest Italians who simply love the game. They compete for the Italian Super Bowl. A Team from Bergamo is undefeated in 60 something games and has won the Super Bowl nearly 10 years straight. With Rick as their quarterback, the team plays amazing and make the playoffs for the first time in 6 years. In the last game of the season the Panthers play the Bergamo Lions and beat them. They play the Bologna Warriors in the semi-finals of the play-offs and then they play Bergamo in the finals again. They beat them by 3 points and win the Super Bowl. Rick is hailed as a hero in Parma and he turns down a CFL contract to stay with them for another year.
