The Oath 3

December 18, 2007

While reading books such as The Oath, it is interesting to take note of how authors make use of current technology and how the story would be different if written in today’s world.

The Oath was written in 1995, which although is not ages ago, it still presents some things which would change if modernized. For example, there is talk about how since there is no fax machine, vital paperwork cannot be sent to the hero. This is obviously because this was written before the mass popularization of email and the internet.

This is even more noticeable in Peretti’s Darkness series. The two books were written in ‘86 and ‘88. The situations in this book would be very different if modernized.

If either of these books are made into movies, as Peretti has stressed he would love to do, they would have to either be adapted to modern technology, or specify the date in the movie itself.

THR3E, a novel by Ted Dekker, makes great use of modern technology. The entire plot of the book would not be possible if written too long ago. As this has already been made into  a movie, there is no fear of changing the story to make it work in a different time frame

Well, that’s all I have to say for now. Happy reading to all, and to all a good night!

The Oath 2

December 14, 2007

Frank Peretti has the awesomely weird skill of making it seem like the book is almost over, it seems too easy to predict what is going to happen. This is where I was before I started today’s reading, and I’m only halfway through the 553 pages! But I knew that it wouldn’t be long until Peretti would insert an insane new angle into the story and make the book seem unsolvable again. And I wasn’t disappointed! My reading time today was filled with many twists, turns, and even gruesome experiences. There was a malicious attack on a lady who knew to much, but her and her son fought their way through and sent the attacker fleeing. He was so beat up that the mother went as far to tell the police that the atacker’s nose almost came off when her son punched him. One main character, Steve, has also uncovered some freaky new information making his hunt for a predator all the more crucial/terrifying. I don’t want to say too much and spoil the plot, because that would ruin any potential reader’s experience. Therefore, I will end this post right now.

The Oath

December 12, 2007

I am reading a book called The Oath by Frank Peretti. So far it has been great.

***If you are extremely squimish, DO NOT read the rest of this review***

At the beginning of the book a body, well half a body, is found. The man’s wife is in shock and does not remember anything. The dead guy’s brother, Steve, investigates  the death, who would kill his brother so violently? As other victims begin to fall, Steve searches harder. The town has a dark secret and a sacred Oath. Could something much more sinister than a person be responsible?

As you can see, the suspense is incredible. I recommend this book to all thriller/suspense fans. For more info click here.
